Full, partial or a face frame?
Full highlights put foils through the whole head, the back and underneath included, root to ends. Partial highlights cover the top and sides, the parts people see when your hair is down. A face frame is just a few lighter pieces around your face and part, to catch the light, and it can often go ten to twelve weeks between touch-ups. Which one suits you comes down to where you want the brightness and how you wear your hair. Most highlights need redoing every six to twelve weeks, depending on placement.
Blonde highlights, babylights and brunette highlights
Babylights are very fine highlights that copy the way hair lightens after a summer in the sun. Blonde highlights can be bold or barely there. The finer the pieces, and the closer they sit to your own color, the softer they grow out. If you want to go lighter all over, see blonde.
Brunette highlights start from your natural color. We look at it, and at your skin tone, before choosing the tone and placement, so the brightness reads as yours rather than as something added.
Highlights or balayage?
Foils can bring brightness right up to the root. Balayage leaves a softer root and goes longer between visits. For inspiration, see Johnny Ramirez's beach blonde highlights →
